Perfect Pork was established in January 2000 by Steve Hart and David Plant. They have known each other both professionally and as friends for a number of years. Although both involved in the pig industry, they seemed to have the same idea from different angles. David, an ex-pig farmer, had developed a reputation for producing fine quality sausages of various flavours, with a high meat content. He had also been dry curing bacon and ham in the traditional way. What he needed now was a consistent supply of lean and tasty pork. Steve has had outdoor, free-range pigs since 1986. His pigs are allowed longer to mature than animals from modern systems and their lifestyle is reflected in meat with a distinctive flavour. They are allowed to do normal 'piggy things' like rooting and wallowing. They never see concrete. Their food is additive free. They thrive in the fresh air. This stress free environment (for the pigs, not Steve!) makes for healthier animals and, ultimately, tastier meat - you only have to try it. As is often the case, a chance remark about how meat used to taste much better and Steve and David decided to join forces. They have developed a high quality welfare product that is put through a time consuming processing technique. As a result they have produced a high class, consistent product. Steve and David wanted a name to emphasise the quality. Perfect Pork was born. |
